New DESIGN GALLERY out now!!!
MATERIALS NEEDED:
A large piece of fabric
Fabric scissors
A sewing machine*
A ruler
A pencil
A piece of elastic**
*If you don't have a sewing machine, you can also make these pants with a needle and thread, it will just take longer.
**If you don't have any elastic, a rubber band will work as well.
Disclaimer: These pants are for dolls. They are not meant for human sizing, so I would advise you to look elsewhere for human sized patterns and directions for pants.
Measure your doll's legs, from her toes to the middle of her waist.
(For this doll, it's 15 cm)
Trace the outline for your pants. For the width and length, use your doll's leg measurements.
(For this doll, it's 15cmx15cm)
Hem the top of the pants. Make sure you have enough room to fit your elastic. You can use a sewing machine or do it by hand.
(For this doll, hem is about 2cm)
Hem the bottom of the pants. This hem can be very small, or you can do a bigger hem. You can use a sewing machine or do it by hand.
(For this doll, hem is about 0.5cm)
Place the doll next to the hemmed pants, making sure to line up the waist. Trace a line across the fabric where the in-seam will start.
(For this doll, it was about 4cm down from the hem line)
Fold the pants in half to fine the center, then cut up to the line you drew in Step 5.
Attach a safety pin to your elastic, then start threading the elastic through the top hem.
Stop threading the elastic when the end without a safety pin reaches the start of the hem tube. Then sew a line to attach the elastic there.
Stretch the elastic through the hem tube until it is tight enough for you doll's waist. Make sure it will be able to fit! Then sew the elastic to the fabric the same way you did in Step 8.
(For this doll, there was about 4cm of extra elastic)
Fold the fabric in half (with right sides together), the sew a line at the edge starting at the line you traced in Step 5. You may have to go over it a few times so it is very secure and won't come undone.
Unfold the fabric and you should see the pants' shape. Then sew the in-seam on both legs, stopping at the line you drew in Step 5.
Find the crotch of the pants and sew a tiny line so there's not a hole when you turn the pants right side out.
(For this doll, the line was only about 0.5cm)
Turn the pants right side out and put them on your doll. Pair it with a top and your done! Make sure you're gentle, sometimes things will rip when you're turning them right side out.
