New DESIGN GALLERY out now!!!
MATERIALS NEEDED:
A large piece of fabric
Fabric scissors
A sewing machine*
A ruler
A pencil
A piece of ribbon
OPTIONAL: A lighter**
*If you don't have a sewing machine, you can also make this skirt with a needle and thread, it will just take longer.
**This is completely optional, and is only needed in Step 7, which is an optional step. If you decide to do this step, make sure you are VERY CAREFUL and have a parent/guardian's permission.
Disclaimer: This skirt is for dolls. It's not meant for human sizing, and although you could probably make it work, I would advise looking elsewhere for skirt patterns and sizing.
Measure your doll from the middle of the waist to wherever you want your skirt to end. Make sure to leave room for the hem.
(For this doll, it's 7.5cm)
Trace the outline for your skirt. The length is your measurement from Step 1, and the width can be however long you want.
(For this doll, it's 7.5cmx14cm)
Hem the top of your skirt, making sure you have room to fit the ribbon through.
(For this doll, it's 2cm)
Hem the bottom of the skirt. This hem can be whatever size you want.
(For this doll, it's 0.5cm)
Fold the fabric in half (with right sides together) and sew along the edge, starting the line where the top hem ends. Make sure you don't sew the top hem closed.
Cut a piece of ribbon that is at least 2cm longer than the width you cut in Step 2.
(For this doll, it's 16cm)
THIS STEP IS OPTIONAL. IF YOU DO IT, BE VERY CAUTIOUS!
Get a lighter and pass the end of the ribbon through the flame very quickly. This makes the ribbon not fray. Make sure you don't have the ribbon in the flame for too long, or it will catch on fire.
Turn your skirt right side out. Attach a safety pin to your ribbon and start threading it through the top hem tube. Take the safety pin out when you finish threading the ribbon.
Put the skirt on your doll and tie the ribbon in the back. Pair it with a top and you're done!
